      @@saraveradequinn so there are temperature settings. I’ve learned in time since our first use that I can turn the temps down a lot more, and still get her very dry. The temps made me nervous too as I’ve never used one. I will say that her breeder also had dryers like this (different brand I believe), and they use them regularly. Apparently Miss Floyd has seen dryers since she was a baby. lol. I really trust our breeder. So if she uses them, I trust that it’s safe. Although always monitor that your pet isn’t overheating.

    I randomly feel like venting a story that happened the other day So the other day in was in Walmart (of course I was) with my psychiatric partial medical alert SDiT. A chihuahua in a cart started barking its little head off at my dog, it scared the hell out of me so I stepped back. (My family was somewhere else I went to get some cheese) this tiny chihuahua literally jumped out of the cart and ran up to my dog, this scared the sheepskin out of me because I didn’t want my dog to fear outings (even though we live with an old chihuahua). I kicked the dog away and I found my family and sat down while they talked to the manger, in this short time period my dog missed an alert and my panic attack led to a faint. Luckily we got to a safe place to sit down for a bit. I am perfectly fine but I wish people knew that wasn’t.

      She’s not being trained for me at all. She’s intended to be a breeder for the service dog program Mya graduated from/that we volunteer with. I’m raising her. Back up training her as a service dog is the intention in case she doesn’t pass her preliminary vet exams in a year for breeding. If she doesn’t pass, she may still be able to be a service dog. It all depends.

    So she was a ‘dumb dumb’ for eating grass which is well known that dogs and cats eat when they’re stomachs are upset and then you give her food that she isn’t used to which would only make it worse, she vomits and has multiple poops prior to going in to the store and none of that made you think that she perhaps would have to go to the toilet again due to her upset tummy. I’m shocked that as experienced dog owner you don’t know that they eat grass to settle their stomachs! There was no need to attract store staff, you could have used your own disinfectant wipes

    What I’d really like to know is why on earth would you take your children to a store alone without someone else who could deal with the children should you ‘pass out’. I’m intrigued as to whether you drove to the store because I’m sure as in England you are unable to drive legally if you suffer from fits, faints or blackouts. If your service dog is trained to help you, it cannot drive for you or stop a faint while you’re driving, equally if you passed out it may help you but it cannot babysit your kids. I’m also amazed how you happen to film every episode

    The dog barking at the service animal is indeed very wrong. The owner should NOT have brought her into the store. It is incredibly dangerous of her. HOWEVER, a pet being in the store that is not causing issues or barking/growling/etc. should not be distracting to a trained service animal. Service animals are tasked to ignore distractions. Of course, barking and antagonizing people/dogs should NOT BE ALLOWED in these areas, and yes that dog was not supposed to be in this particular store, but again I think that this particular situation was a bit of an overreaction. My SDiT is currently in the focus/distraction phases of training and he is trained to ignore these particular distractions in the real world. To summarize: No that dog and owner should NOT have been there. The dog barking was definitely a confirmation of that. But a service dog should be trained to ignore/avoid these encounters. EDIT: To ALL owners in these situations, it is NOT the dog's fault. It is the owners. Do NOT blame the dog directly. Blame the owner.

    • @ServiceDogPaws
      @ServiceDogPaws 9 днів тому

      Yes! So it’s completely dependent on the state you live in. Federal law is what protects and grants access to trained Service Dogs. But it is up to the state, to give access rights to in training service dogs. If you live in a state where they do not grant in training dogs access, you would not be able to work that dog in public until it was fully trained. I live in Alabama. And we have state laws protecting the access rights of service dogs in training.

      She’s 4 1/2 now. She is a cardiac alert service dog. She graduated from an actual service dog program 2 years ago. Her cardiac alerts are more accurate than my Apple Watch. This exact training, worked for her. And other dogs who were being scent trained. I’m aware that there are different methods to teaching this. I trained my own cardiac alert service dog. Why does that seem to be such a problem? You could have looked at how old this was. And looked at updated stuff to figure out that this was successful. For us. Have a great day and let’s stop trying to gate keep in the dog community. There are different ways to train. There is never only way. And different trainers will always have different methods. It worked. If you had any advice 4 years ago we could have benefited from to make the process easier that would have been great. But this did work for my high heart rate, and she does alert to it.❤️ have a good day. Also, this is not to say that I’m not open to learning new ways. I would have loved guidance when this was being done. But I had to figure it out the best way I could.

This did work for what we needed it for. And it’s worked for other service dog handlers. I’m not needing her to detect all these different smells out and about. Learn to grow and give positive feedback. Not all animals are the same, not all trainers are the same. Different methods for different services.
